Kanniyakumari District, located at the southernmost tip of India in Tamil Nadu, is known for its rich culture, traditions, and natural beauty. It is where three seas meet, boasting a 48 km coastline, surrounded by the Western Ghats, fertile agricultural lands, and a high population density.

In an effort to sustain and promote its rich heritage and encourage local resource-based development, the Rebuild Kanniyakumari Movement, in collaboration with civil society movements such as Mahalir Association for Literacy Awareness and Rights (MALAR), Rural Motivation Programme (RMP), Coastal Peace and Development (CPD), Varapasadam Nature Stores, Cape Comorin Resource Foundation, PALMA, AWED, Tamil Nadu Science Forum (TNSF), Eathamozhy Coir Cluster, Lemuria Self Defense, CHDP, KIDS, and many other organizations, has organized a three-day Pongal festival on 11th, 12th, 13th January 2023, coinciding with Pongal. St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering provides the venue and significant support.
